GLAA November Board Meeting Minutes
Great Lakes Alpaca Association Board meeting 1/28/08:
In attendance: Tom, Chris, Wade, Dan, and Helen.
This evening a summary of member renewal was reviewed. During our By-law change election, members were given the opportunity to renew their membership at the same time as returning a completed ballot. As of 1/10/08, 67 members had renewed membership; with additional ballots trickling in, we anticipate more to come. Dan has been performing quality assurance on our existing membership roster against the members posted on the GLAA website as checks are received. Wade will send out a reminder to members who were unpaid as of February 1st.
The new bylaws, which can now be seen in the “About GLAA” section of this website, were approved by 100% of members who returned ballots.
Chris confirmed that a “GLAA meet and greet” and brief member meeting will occur immediately after the Spring Bling halter show on Saturday March 15th . Wine will be available complements of GLAA.
We discussed the possibility of GLAA absorbing the cost of transporting fleece to the Fiber Coop during a GLAA sponsored event. Details of when and where will be available after our February board meeting. We also discussed the first GLAA sponsored event for members in 2008. One possibility being considered is retaining Dr. Brett Kaysen of Colorado State University to keynote at the event on expected progeny differences. An appropriate date and meeting place for this event are being explored.
Next meeting will held at 8:00pm Wednesday February 27, 2008.
Respectfully submitted, Helen Thomas-Bronk

GLAA Initiates Education Series - August 16, 2008
The Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Alpaca Association has initiated a program of offering timely seminars aimed at helping alpaca breeders grow their business.
The first of these, a “double feature” pilot program on Marketing and Genetics has been set up for August 16, 2008 .
Deb Hill, Cloud Dancer Alpacas, Flagstaff, Arizona has been contracted to present the one day program. She has been raising alpacas in northern Arizona since 1996. With husband Don Sanfilippo, she runs a successful alpaca operation using experience gained from farm life and decades in small business management. The result is a profitable venture based on a small herd of 12-20 alpacas. Deb is on the board of the Alpaca Registry, and previously chaired the AOBA Education Committee for several years. She was also on the Development Committee for the Alpaca Research Foundation, and has presented at many regional and national alpaca conferences, always to rave reviews.
